Night
was had been blanketed this little hamlet, when we arrived at this small
hamlet, hours have shown figure 1 o’clock, a sign we are already past mid
night, just the sound of music from MP3 and small talk between us that fills
the silence of the night when we entering the village Povelua, one of the
villages included in districts Banawa Central, the scenery along the way is
rather vague, because the village is unspoiled by development programs such as
rural electrification, even if there are electric lights were visible
illuminate the two houses is electricity derived from generator, which not many
people can have, ironically, with a distance of less than 20 kilometer from the
district capital Donggala, and also an area source of water for the PDAM (Local Water Company) that every
day provide stock water for the City of Donggala and villages in the Banawa
Central districts and Banawa districts, This villages has not cared to come
enjoy what is called equitable development.
Duria
Bali the name of this hamlet, included in the Povelua Village area precisely
hamlet IV. The naming was taken from the
phenomenon that occurred in the village, where there is a Durian tree that
sometimes leaves often change color, and also the fruit, which in Unde Language
(one of sub-tribe of Kaili tribe) it’s called Nebali, it means change.
There is little hustle going on in Duria Bali, if not outright
shock I think, because it is very rare car went in at midnight here, it appears
some residents gathered in front of their house, still wearing a sarong,
because they had just woken from a them deep sleep after a day work in the
fields.
Once
out of the car, we went straight to the house of Mr. Andi, Chief of RT in this
hamlet, we need to meet with him to explain the purpose of our arrival, and we
also need to ask permission to use Bantaya
Hamlet as our place to stay tonight. Conversations are interspersed with
enjoying hot coffee takes about 30 minutes, this conversation took place with
warm and in a family atmosphere, sometimes laughter us if there are funny
things on the topic of our conversation.
After
a warm conversation with Mr. Andi finished, we then said goodbye and headed
straight to Bantaya Hamlet (building houses on stilts constructed of wood,
usually used for meetings hamlet and discuss indigenous issues and also to
receive guests hometown) to rest, recharge for discussion tomorrow, indeed according
to Mr. Andi, they were already waiting for us along, because it also had no
prior notice of the village, just because it was the middle of the night they
conclude that we will come up tomorrow morning, which is why there is a bit of
shock when we arrived at midnight.
In
the morning, Chief of Hamlet has come to wake us. Daily in Duria Bali has been
running since earlier, although with little movement, is more likely to lazy to
get up, I then woke up, Run, Ewin, and Fathur still curled up in their sleeping
bags, after morning routine minus the morning shower just to wash my face and
brush my teeth in the shower water who supplied to the village, which is
located, in addition to Bantaya Hamlet, I returned ladder to climb to Bantaya
Hamlet and start the ritual of drinking coffee in the morning, while talking
with the Chief of Hamlet and some parents who had gathered in Bantaya, the comrades
others have started moving awake, not long after they had joined enjoy drinking
coffee in the morning, hours refers to the number 10 o’clock. discussions
began, talked about many things, including the matter of thinking of a solution
against the irony of development that occurred in the Povelua village, what steps are most can
be reached in the near future, including also think about and discuss
the possibility of utilization of
water energy as a
small-scale power stations such as MHP (Micro
Hydro Power Plant). This discussion also discussed and
documented about the local wisdom of indigenous people who still maintained a good
and still run until now, such as maintaining and carrying out treatment or
habits when opening the rice fields, then at the time of planting rice fields,
until the time of harvest rice, also when bringing the harvest home. Turns
treatment or these habits have value philosophy that is as high as a tribute to
the rice as a food source or a source of life, thereby ensuring that the
process of growing rice that remain stable is a must, it includes also preserve
the natural surroundings as a supporter or an essential part of efforts to
preserve the cultivation of rice, and it is well understood by the people here.
When the afternoon discussion on the first day finished, the participants who
are residents of the hamlet of Duria Bali and some of the participants come
from other hamlets but still includes the people of Povelua village return to
their homes respectively, continuing their daily lives and prepare for the
continuation of discussions tomorrow, the night came again, an old
parent came with a kerosene lamp
to illuminate Bantaya Hamlet.
Morning came again,
the morning ritual began again, the discussion began again, continuing
discussions yesterday which has not been completed, the afternoon discussion
was completed, we prepare to return to Palu City, after saying goodbye to the
villagers, we then return to Palu City, leaving Duria Bali with their modesty ,
their simplicity, hospitality remain, amid irony imbalance of development going
on in the village, the streets of the village are still holes, electric
lighting that does not exist, clear water continues to flow gives life to many
people not only for them but for many people in the City and District of
Donggala, Banawa districts and Central Banawa districts, da nosinggava vai nte komiu sampesuvu ri Duria Bali (to meet again
with all of you, my brothers and sisters in Duria Bali).
